MMXI

My pre-dated new year resolution was to complete watching the ten most popular English movies of 2010 before I saw the light of 2011. I missed it. Not the "seeing the light" part, but the resolution part. Though not fully. I was quite impressed with the way The Social Network has been made. These days I login Facebook very frequently. I have developed a respect for Winklevoss bros. Got to catch up with his tiny interview in Newsweek; sounds good. Have checked out Zuckerberg's FB profile too. Thanks to a taut script and the fitting cast, this movie surely does not fail to entertain you. You also get to have an interesting inside view of the most defining feature of today's wired societies - Face book!

Inception is simply mind boggling! A complex concept told, er..shown.. in the simplest and the most elegant way. Wachowski bros had come up with a similar kind of stuff in the Matrix series. But Nolan's treatment is just amazing. He explains you the premise, the concept of dream space, takes you through the story patiently and grippingly - one step after the other. There are no sudden abstract puzzles thrown at you. There are no attempts to test your IQ. There is a single-minded pursuit to thrill you and put you in a different world for about 150 minutes - Nolan has surely succeeded on this front. Eagerly waiting for 2012 - Batman 3!

I just wonder if DiCaprio is still mentally stable. Had seen his stellar performance in Scorece's Shutter Island. Here again, you are just dazzled by the way the movie is conceptualised and presented. Just as in Inception, DiCaprio does a role that has more to do in a different, mental world than in the actual real, physical world. His performance, in both the movies, is so impressive and only that makes me wonder if he still retains the normal orientation we have with respect to time and space. Probably he should have had a kind of debriefing sessions before he was let free from these movie sets and made to live his usual real-world life.

Yet to catch up with the Potter boy, Black Swan, True Grit, Rabbit Hole and The Town. What good is a resolution if its not broken?

Nice new year resolution! I have planned to execute the same but during 2011 :-) "Social Network" - yes, good one. Again not going in depth into technical reasons, terms etc it was indeed a good effort and also the way of narration or screenplay was interesting - flashback correlated with present - though a cliche in film industry few years back, it worked. Dicaprio - :-) Nice catch..yeah inception and shutter island have such a climax in common leaving the decision to the viewers..Infact while seeing Inception,I was reminded of few scenes from Shutter Island..better for Dicaprio not to indulge in similar movies atleast for a while..
